Engineering discipline that deals with the study and analysis of earth materials for determining their physical, mechanical and chemical properties and their geological evolution looking to their potential exploitation and use. The geotechnical/geological  engineer conducts construction surveys, geological surveys of prospecting, exploration, evaluation, sizing and utilization of soil and mineral and energy resources.

Geotechnical/Geological engineering includes the following specialization areas:

  • Surveying
  • Soil mechanics and foundations
  • Geological risk prevention and control
  • Geological exploration
  • Mineral resources prospection and sizing
  • Hydrocarbon resources prospection
