Engineering discipline that deals with the design of vessels and structures for marine, river and lacustrine applications, as well as their maintenance and operation. Naval engineering involves both naval architecture and maritime engineering for the development, design and operation of watercraft propulsion and on-board systems. It includes power and propulsion plants, machinery, piping, automation and control systems for marine vehicles of any kind, such as surface ships and submarines.
